World of Oriden
The largest range of mountains on the planet; it divides the continent of Oridalia in three. The range is the primary reason for the extremely arid climate of the Alasian Desert Basin, the driest desert on the world of Oriden, and the very wet climate of the Realms of Anador immediately north of it. The name means “Magic Mountains” in giant common speech. The name is apt as magic was the leading force in making this range. Before Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Shirefolk, and even Elves, Oriden was dominated by dragons of every kind, including those that are now extinct. The draconian cultures were led by Bahamut for the side of good, and Tiamat for the side of evil. The dragons ruled Oriden mostly peacefully for millenia. Tiamat then, through several powerful magic items strategically placed throughout Oriden, sowed the seeds of discontent. Those seeds bore fruit in the form of a long series of civil wars between the draconian civilizations. Those wars eventually destroyed all the draconian cultures, but as those wars raged, very powerful magics were created and were used to change the face of Oriden permanently. One of those changes was increasing the size and elevation of the Zauber Berge to its current dimensions. The warring factions used the these larger mountains as fortified bases of operations against one another. After the last draconian civilizations were destroyed, the changes to the planet’s face remain the only physical evidence of these once great and flourishing cultures.
